The Washington became a state on November 11, 1889. Prior to statehood, it was the Territory of Washington (or Washington Territory) between 1853 and 1889.

According to the survey, the earliest Germans from Russia to settle in what would become Washington state were immigrant Volhynian Germans. The colony they came from wasn't reported, but they were reportedly Mennonites, and they settled in Monroe, Washington Territory in 1876.

Immigrant Germans from Russia along with first, second, third, fourth and fifth generation descendants were reported to have lived in Washington.
