Illinois

Illinois became a state on December 3, 1818. Prior to statehood, it was the Territory of Illinois (or Illinois Territory) between 1809 and 1818.

According to the survey, the earliest Germans from Russia to arrive in Illinois were immigrant Black Sea Germans from the Bessarabian colony of Sarata. They arrived in 1874 and settled in Brush Prairie just west of Akin, Illinois.

Immigrant Germans from Russia along with first, second, third, fourth and fifth generation descendants were reported to have lived in Illinois.

There were 97 places in Illinois reported on the survey. Included below is the earliest year Germans from Russia reportedly arrived in each place.
